Cranfield Aviation Fire Fighting Course

Cranfield Aviation Fire Fighting Course

Fires – of any size and cause – can be devastating if not contained and extinguished. Fire fighting and the management thereof, should be understood and taken seriously as fires can get out of control quickly. Onboard fires are a very real threat to life. Crew should at all times be aware of smells and other fire related signals, so that immediate action can be taken.

Flight Deck and Cabin crew

This training program is designed to equip both cabin and flight deck crew with extensive knowledge and understanding of the following regarding onboard fires:

  • Prevention
  • Detection
  • Possible causes
  • Management
  • Crew responsibilities
  • Equipment

The course material will provide information regarding the procedures to follow when smoke is detected onboard, and will also give you specific accounts of aircraft fires where lives have been lost; in some cases, completely unnecessarily.

In order to effectively fight fires, it is important to understand the components of fire and their relation to each other, types of fires, fire detection equipment and fire fighting equipment, all of which will be discussed in this program.

Fire Fighting Training, Safety Emergency Procedures Training (SEPT) and Aircraft Type Training all form an integral and highly interrelated part of your flight training. This Fire Fighting Training Program is therefore designed to complement the other modules whilst providing delegates with a better knowledge and understanding of Fire Management.

All crew must be familiar with the legislated requirements to fire safety and reference is made to CATS OPS 64.02.2 / 2.2.4.1 / 3.2.1.8 for this purpose
