University of Cape Town International Students Academic Advice

You may need to seek academic advice regarding course choices, both before arriving at UCT and once you are here. We urge you to stay in regular contact with your home institution regarding your course selection. Bear in mind that transfer of credits is always at the discretion of the home institution.

Kindly note that our international student advisor’s consultation times are as follows:
Monday – Friday
10:00 am to 11:00 am & 14:00 – 15:00 (preferably by appointment).



You should also refer to the various faculty handbooks for information on the courses on offer.

When you arrive at UCT, you may seek advice from any of the heads of department (IAPO can direct you appropriately), or the Academic Advisor.



  • CIEE students may also call on the services of the resident director for student services at CIEE: Rosemary Blake.
  • International Study Abroad (ISA) students can call on the services of the resident director of ISA: Ouma Mpela.
  • Arcadia students can call on the services of the resident director of Arcadia University: Alan Jansen.
  • IES students can call on the services of the resident director of IES: Natanya van der Lingen

Once you have completed the programme, three copies of your transcript will be sent to your home institution, together with an explanation of the grading system used at UCT. Should you require additional copies of the transcripts in future, contact any of the staff members above directly on the email addresses given above. They are easily supplied, at a cost of $25 per set of five copies.
