Emergency Care Technician Course

The Emergency Care Technician (ECT) course is a two year qualification offered nationally by the Emergency Care Training Colleges. The qualification is offered on the National Qualification Framework Level 5 (NQF 5). The course is worth 240 credits and 2400 notional hours which includes an elective. This two year full-time qualification replaces the existing short course system of training. Graduates will be eligible to register with the Health Professional Council of South Africa. The qualification will allow articulation to higher education and training Institutions and further career opportunities.

Who should Apply

Applicants’ minimum age of 19 years.

Applicant to be in possession of a valid driver’s license.

Applicant to be in possession of a valid Grade   12 (Matric) certificate/or equivalent qualification.

Applicant to be in possession of a Basic Ambulance Assistant Certificate, and current HPCSA Registration (for in-service staff).

Application and Assessment Process

 

Application forms are obtainable at the reception of the Free State College of Emergency Care. (see address).

Completed application forms should be returned to the college physical address or posted.

The application form needs to be completed with all relevant documents attached.

When the application forms are received, they are screened and successful candidates are invited for an Admission Assessment which includes Language, Literacy, and Comprehension and Numeric components. Successful candidates will be subjected to a Medical and Physical assessment. Preference will be given to candidates with grade 12 mathematics, biology and physical science as subjects.



National Department of Health (NDOH) recruitment and selection policies will be used and the needs of Free State EMS will be taken in to account.
