Mission statement:

Eros seeks to holistically educate and develop the unique abilities and desires of each of its students, keeping in mind their transition from childhood into adulthood. We also pledge to assist every individual to develop their learning skills and attitudes and to achieve their independence to the best of their ability.

  • Learners who have average or above average intelligence, but who still struggle to progress academically due to specific learning difficulties.
  • Other physically challenged learners with muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, syndromes or genetic abnormalities.

What services are available?

  • Eros School can accommodate up to 350 learners.
  • We offer dual-medium academic tuition (English and Afrikaans) from the Pre- Grade R level up to the Grade 12 level.
  • The individual needs of each learner are holistically catered for by our comprehensive staff body, which includes: Academic Educators, Speech Therapists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Nurses, Nurse Aids, Drivers, General Assistants, as well as Volunteers.

Admission procedure:

  • We receive referrals from Hospitals, District Offices, Doctors and Psychologists, etc.
  • Children younger than 6 require a referral letter and medical report. They are often invited for a 1 week period of assessment by Eros multi-disciplinary team. Recommendations for appropriate placement are made after assessment.
  • Learners Gr. 1-12 have to be assessed and referred by district Psychologist. They may also be invited for a period of assessment.
  • All applications are placed on a waiting list. Should a vacancy arise, parents and or schools are informed in writing.
  • Issues such as space in the classroom and on the bus affect but does not determine ultimate placement and learners have to remain on the waiting list until we can offer them a place.
  • Learners have to meet the admission requirements and preference is given to learners with CP and other special needs. Since we follow a mainstream curriculum learners have to be of low-average to average intellectual ability.
  • Applications from other provinces have to be directed to the Metropole Central Education District: For Attention Mr. E. Hassen Tel. 021 514 6919 or [email protected]
  • For further enquiries please contact Mr. Vearey (School Psychologist) at 021-637 9080 or [email protected]

Education:

  • Eros School follows a mainstream curriculum (the same curriculum followed by normal mainstream schools). However, the smaller classes encourage more individual attention for each learner.
  • Specialised Educational methods are used to address specific problems in reading, writings, spelling and or mathematics.
  • The Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, and the Psychologist works in collaboration with the class teacher to ensure that the learners reach their maximum potential.
