Waterberg College Thabazimbi
A state-of-the-art technical college, launched a year ago in Thabazimbi in Limpopo, has opened its doors of learning to rural students.
It focuses on engineering and developing artisans in order to address scarce skills, lack of job placements and practical workplace opportunities after students have graduated.
“Through a well-resourced e-learning resource centre and computer rooms with extended hours of access for students to the internet, the campus also offers a significant proportion of computer-aided instruction,” said Minister Blade Nzimande who attended the official opening of the Waterberg College.
He said the college has the potential to open avenues for artisan skills amongst the youth.
This, he said, should turn into opportunities in mining exploration and grow the local economy.
Dr Nzimande explained that close to R14 million was spent in the area.
College Principal Ms Selaelo Lekoloane, appealed to the community to adopt the college and protect it against any form of vandalism as “it is an asset which provides quality education to today’s youth and in generations to come”.
Kumba Iron Ore representative, Sbusiso Tenza, announced that the company would partner with the college by providing bursaries to the academically deserving students.
