iNTRODUCTION

It is said: “an educator is only as good as their last lecture”. From this quotation, it can be understood that ongoing reflection and development are core components of an educator who is a lifelong learner. With the amount of complexities in students learning needs, an educator will need to develop teaching skills with up-to-date techniques to ensure that learning opportunities for their students are maximised.

The short learning programme (SLP) equips educators with the knowledge and techniques of best teaching practices suited to the 21st century classroom.



ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS

Students should meet the following requirements:

  • Preferably be in a management position within a teaching environment.
  • Be proficient in English.
  • Preferably have three to four years work experience.
  • Must be able to engage in self-directed study.

DURATION

Lectures are conducted once a week in the evening or on a Saturday morning over 8 weeks.

PROGRAMME CONTENT
The programme topics include the following:

  • 21st Century teaching techniques: Blended learning, “The Flipped Classroom” and Inquiry Based Learning.
  • Using assessments to drive the learning process.
  • Engaging in a reflective practice for teaching development.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use a variety of teaching techniques to design the learning process for students.
  • Use Web 2.0 tools for technology enhanced learning within the classroom.
  • Complete the SACE professional development plan as part of the SACE POE submission.

CERTIFICATION

Teaching and Learning Development is a SLP that is certified by The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE). Varsity College is an educational brand of The IIE.n Students enrolled for this SLP can apply, on successful completion, to be exempt based on recognition of prior learning from the equivalent module on The IIE Education Management Development Programme.

All SLPs available through Varsity College’s The Business School have been specifically designed for working adults. These SLPs differ from The IIE’s full qualifications available through Varsity College which are registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).



Before registration students must ensure that the programme selected best suits their individual learning and workplace objectives.
