Who is the Department of Optometry?

At the University of the Free State (UFS) Department of Optometry, we teach you the skills to investigate, diagnose and manage visual and eye health problems. You will be exposed to a variety of new and advanced instruments and techniques and taught how to examine a patient’s eyes to improve and preserve their sight. This innovative degree allows you to conduct projects and community-based initiatives in eye care.

 Training

Special interest fields taught during your four year internationally recognised Optometry degree are:

  • Contact Lenses,
  • Binocular Vision,
  • Paediatric Optometry,
  • Low Vision and
  • Ocular Disease

Admission Requirements and Selection  All students are selected on academic merit.
