This programme is offered by the Department of Anatomy and Physiology. The MSc degree in Veterinary Science is a research degree. The degree is conferred by virtue of the successful completion of a dissertation. Also consult the General Regulations.
The research topic is determined in consultation with the head of department, and the research project(s)/dissertation that follow, must be approved according to Faculty guidelines. Before or together with the dissertation, a student must submit at least one draft article for publication in an acknowledged journal, failing which the degree will not be conferred. The draft article must be based on the research for the dissertation and must be acceptable to the supervisor. (Also consult the General Regulations.) |

Admission Requirements Subject to the stipulations of the applicable General Regulations, a BScHons, a four-year BScAgric, BVSc or equivalent degree or a relevant postgraduate diploma (on NQF level 8) is required. Additional Requirements In certain cases, it remains the prerogative of the head of department to require, in addition to the entrance requirements, the successful completion of an admissions test before registration. In cases where web-based/online modules are offered, basic computer skills are required in order to successfully participate in the degree programme. All international applicants whose first language is not English, may be required to pass a proficiency test in English (TOEFL). Selection Process
To identify potential overlapping focal areas in terms of the applicant’s intended research approach with the current research field(s) of colleagues in Anatomy & Physiology, the applicant should compile a brief (2-3 pages) project outline (including title, background, aims, intended study setup, time schedule, potential funding sources), as well as a brief statement why (s)he considers the department of Anatomy & Physiology as an ideal base for his/her postgraduate studies. These documents will serve as a basis for subsequent discussions including potential identification of a supervisor within the department. |
