Umfolozi College offers In house training for Umfolozi engineers
In house training for Umfolozi engineers Since 2012 Mr Gones Moodley has been enthusiastically spearheading the sanitary ware production at Nseleni Campus. This project which supplies tissues to local businesses, campuses and internal staff provides third stream income and students training.
Approximately 480 000 packs are produced yearly. Particularly Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, Fitting and Turning, Pulp and Paper and Building students are given advanced knowledge on the manufacturing of tissues, fixing of the machines and other duties. According to Mr Gones, his goal is to extensively train them so that when they leave the college they can have hands on knowledge. Moodley also hopes to expand the workshop and use Building students to build it.
Moodley said, “The project is very beneficial to students who receive exposure and saves a lot of money for the College. We buy raw materials and make our own mechanical and electrical products. We want to see many of our students participate in similar projects.”
Nonto Zungu, a second year fitting student who was at the Nseleni Campus to fix a broken machine when the marketing team visited said the College is doing a good job by delegating students to do such tasks. Zungu added, “Companies need skilled people therefore I commend the College for getting us ready for the workplace.”
