SA Golf Institute, Cape Town Academy

The Southern African Golf Institute is situated at River Club in Observatory, Cape Town. Our coaches are PGA qualified and personally trained by our Golf Director, internationally renowned coach Grant Hepburn. Grant has trained coaches around the world and is vastly experienced at passing on his knowledge in a way that allows coaches to have a thorough understanding of how to help golfers improve quickly and effectively.

Our coaching philosophy centres around finding individual solutions to each golfer’s faults. Our coaches understand “cause and effect” of poor technique and are able to provide simple advice that produces the best results. We utilize cameras and computer equipment as well as some unique teaching aids to make the process of learning more visual and a lot easier.

Our facility at River Club , Cape Town is superbly to improving your golf game. We have extensive under cover hitting areas providing shelter from rain and wind. The facility boasts ample grass hitting bays as well as short game areas where it is possible to practice putting, chipping, pitching and bunker play. We are also able to offer a 9 hole mashie golf course on site which is ideal for practicing everything from mid iron play to shot making skills and improving your scoring ability. We have conference facilities and a restaurant on site providing refreshments and tasty meals.

At the Southern African Golf Institute we are dedicated to your golfing needs. As such we provide private tuition as well as a host of other options from group coaching to full time coaching. We also offer the opportunity to make golf your career through our Golf Diploma package and other options providing education alongside world class golf coaching.

Coaching

Our coaches will evaluate any aspect of your game that you would like to improve. We are experts in the full swing as well as short game skills. All our coaches provide a high level of golf instruction to ensure to player understands the changes and is able to apply them.

Ideally one should book at least an hour with a coach in order to video one’s swing and discuss the problem areas and solutions, although we do offer half hour time slots. The coach will help you to make positive changes through the use of specific drills as well as unique teaching aids that will help you to understand and feel the correct movement.

All Golf Lessons are given at The River Club Driving Range, Observatory, Cape Town. Playing lessons can be provided at numerous Golf Courses around Cape Town and the Peninsula.

Full Time Golf

Full Time Golf – Become a Champion

The institute offers a Full-Time coaching program to players wanting to either become top amateurs or to prepare them for tour school. Players receive regular lessons with Grant Hepburn who has 17 years of international coaching experience. The program includes the following:

Supervised practice sessions with experts every day.

Unlimited access to video analysis

Weekly playing lessons

Membership at a golf club

Membership at River Club practice facility

PGA Diploma

We offer a 3 year PGA diploma that is internationally recognised. This program is specifically for people that would like to make golf a career. Students will be coached by our world renowned Director of Golf, Grant Hepburn and his team on an individual and group basis. Our Education partner, ETA will provide our education support and accreditation.

Amateurs retain their amateur status during the course of their studies. This ensures that you can still compete for your province or country before turning professional.

Our world class coaches and experts in sports psychology, golf fitness and life skills will prepare you for a playing career in the professional ranks.

For those that fall short of the skills required to make it as a tour playing professional the PGA subjects will prepare and qualify you for a career in the golf industry. The PGA of SA is affiliated to the PGA’s of Europe and the PGA qualification is recognised in over 40 countries worldwide.

High Performance Program

Golfers will focus their efforts on becoming good enough to play at a high level, perhaps even becoming a touring professional. They will enjoy a competitive group environment with supervised practice and coaching sessions every day. Coaches will accompany the golfers on practice rounds to record stats, advise on shot selection and also to monitor technique under playing conditions.

The SA Golf Institute will manage the group in terms of advising them on schedules and planning as well as accompanying them to various tournaments.

Nutrition, Fitness and Sports Psychology advice will also be available through our expert partners in the relevant fields. This area of development is important and we will manage and supervise the program for the golfers.

Junior or Part Time High Performance

This is mostly for school-going children who cannot do golf full time. They will be able to practice and play in a group environment and receive unlimited coaching in their sessions. As with the Full Time High Performance Program they will receive on course coaching at scheduled SA Golf Institute practice rounds and we will keep a record of their stats and monitor their progress through regular skills tests.

For those that require chaperoning to tournaments, especially in the case of events that are outside of Cape Town we will be able to provide that service. This option will be an extra cost and is especially helpful for advanced juniors playing in Order of Merit tournaments. We will accompany groups of our players to these tournaments, which will save the parents the time and cost of having to travel with their children to the events.

Golf Diploma

We offer a 3 year NATIONAL DIPLOMA: CLUB PROFESSIONAL GOLFING (NQF 5, CODE 73209), Accredited by the PGA of SA. Once the student has completed the Diploma and the PGA Criteria then he/she can apply for Full PGA Membership which is recognized in over 40 countries. This program is specifically for people that would like to make golf a career. Students follow a full time coaching program with 2 hours allocated to their game every day. They will be supervised and coached by our world renowned Director of Golf, Grant Hepburn and his team on an individual and group basis. .

A big benefit to the course is that Students retain their amateur status during the course of their studies. This ensures that you can still compete for your province or country before electing to turn professional.

Our world class coaches and experts in sports psychology, golf fitness and life skills will prepare you for a playing career in the professional ranks.

For those who don’t make it as a tour playing professional, the PGA subjects will prepare and qualify you for a career in the golf industry. The PGA of SA is affiliated to the PGA’s of Europe and the PGA qualification is recognised in over 40 countries worldwide.
