The School of Health Sciences takes advantage of opportunities for collaboration with global partners and with the local communities. Therefore, our programmes, managed by highly qualified academics, produce graduates with relevant and economically viable skills.
Academic accreditation
The degrees and programmes we offer are relevant to the changing needs of the population in Africa and the world. The Bachelor of Public Health, the Bachelor of Public Health (Honours), the Bachelor of Social Science (with a major in psychology), the Bachelor of Social Science (Honours) in Psychology and the Postgraduate Diploma in Management specialising in HIV/Aids and Health are accredited by the Higher Education Quality Committee (HEQC) of the Council on Higher Education (CHE). Graduates of the Bachelor of Public Health and Bachelor of Public Health (Honours) degrees are eligible to join the Public Health Association of South Africa (PHASA).
Community commitment
The courses are structured to ensure that our graduates acquire relevant skills that will positively impact health management and the livelihood of our local community. We work closely with provincial leaders and the South African government to find solutions to health and social issues affecting our population. We actively engage our students to become change agents of health and psychosocial challenges in our various communities.
Success stories
Ms Natasha Khamisa began her academic journey at Monash South Africa in 2005. She completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology in 2008 and graduated with an Honours degree in 2009. Natasha went on to pursue her Masters in 2010 from Monash University in Australia and soon upgraded to a PhD in 2012. As an external PhD candidate Natasha often visits Monash University in Australia to attend workshops and seminars as well as deliver presentations within her area of study. Natasha became a Psychology tutor in her third year of studies and continued her role as tutor until she began her PhD during which time was offered the position of Associate Lecturer. She is now a full time Lecturer in the Department of Public Health and will be completing her PhD in the near future, specialising in Occupational Health.
