History of the CPUT Libraries

Who are we?

The Cape Peninsula University of Technology Library was started in January 2005 and is the product of the merging of two Technikon libraries, Cape Technikon Library and Peninsula Technikon Library. Access to our library is available at the following campuses: Bellville, Cape Town, Granger Bay, Groote Schuur, Mowbray, Tygerberg and Wellington.

What are we about?

The library provides resources, information and information literacy programmes to support the learning and research programmes at the various campuses. The strengths of each library collection reflect the academic programmes offered at the campus. Staff and students of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology may make use of the library at any campus. Any member of the community may consult materials held in the libraries.

The library has developed links with both local and international libraries. With the Universities of Cape Town, Stellenbosch and Western Cape, it is a member of the local consortium CALICO, the Cape Library Co-operative. It is a member of IATUL, the International Association of Technological University Libraries.
