Ekurhuleni East College Graduation

The highest average achieved by a student at the Ekurhuleni East College (EEC) graduation ceremony on Friday, was 99.6%.

The marks belonged to level 2 call centre student, Sello Mosheledi from KwaThema.

The annual event was hosted at the KwaThema campus in Sam Ngema Drive and included graduates from Brakpan, Benoni, Daveyton and Benoni campuses.

EEC marketing manager Malesedi Maphunye said national diplomas where awarded to the graduates in courses ranging from engineering, business, marketing, human resources as well as creative and social services.

She said their campaign, which focuses on changing negative perceptions that colleges ‘are for bad academic performers’, is proving to be a success.

The Youth Development Unit available in the college assists in securing employment for students who submit CVs.

“Employers want college students because they acquire skills while doing the theory,” she said.

Malesedi said EEC had increased the number of local residents in their colleges, owing to their recruitment drive in schools, malls and other public places.

Other best performers from the community include Nokuthula Mngadi (80% in hospitality) from KwaThema and Thabang Mogotsi (78% in marketing).

Representing Tsakane was Katlego Mogedi, who got 82% for information and communication technology (ICT) and Lindokuhle Sithole, who got 77.46% in finance, economics and accounting.

Students who meet the requirements known as articulation to higher education, have the option of applying at various institutions to further their studies.
