African Leadership Academy seeks to transform Africa by developing a powerful network of over 6,000 leaders who will work together to address Africa’s greatest challenges, achieve extraordinary social impact, and accelerate the continent’s growth trajectory.

Bridge2Rwanda (Rwanda)

Bridge2Rwanda was formed in 2007 to help expand Rwanda’s global network of friends, to encourage foreign direct investment and to create opportunities for Rwandan students to study abroad. The Bridge2Rwanda Scholars Program is dedicated to building a fellowship of globally educated, entrepreneurial leaders in Africa, modeled after Jesus – committed to their countries, to one another and to accelerating Africa’s growth.

  • CIYOTA/COBURWAS (Uganda)

CIYOTA is a volunteer based non-profit focusing on education, leadership, and non-violence. CIYOTA started a secondary school in 2008 but it was not until 2013 that the organization managed to send students to university given the high cost of education, and the competitive nature of higher education scholarships in English-speaking countries for those from low-income households. CIYOTA works with universities and stakeholders to support high school graduates to transition to tertiary education opportunities that prepare students to return Africa to drive a lasting transformation for Africa.

Imagine Scholar (South Africa)

Imagine Scholar’s roots date back to 2009. It was a collaboration between one young American named Corey Johnson and five students from Nkomazi. Together this group recognized youth from rural, under-resourced areas were unfairly restricted from reaching their full potential. They wanted to create a pathway for motivated youth to excel in university, succeed professionally, and effect sustainable social change. Today, their young leaders are transforming their communities in unprecedented fashion.

International School of Tanganyika (Tanzania)

IST is an independent, private, not-for-profit day school located on two campuses in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. IST offers rigorous academic programmes coupled with a wide range of extra-curricular activities serving students from age 3 to Grade 12. IST aims to ensure all their students make a high level of educational progress. Furthermore, it strives to ensure that IST students gain access to their universities and schools of choice.

JOE Program (Mozambique)

The EducationUSA Janelas de Oportunidades Educacionais (“Windows of Educational Opportunity”—JOE) program was launched in 2011 at the U.S. Embassy in Maputo on the premise that there are many highly-talented Mozambican youth who have never dreamed of pursuing higher education at colleges and universities abroad simply because of their financial circumstances. The aim of the program is to empower youth to look beyond financial barriers and to dream, assisting them to negotiate the complicated and confusing admission and financial aid process at selective institutions in the United States and creating the strength of a cohort educational advising unit for mutual support throughout and beyond the admission process.

Makomborero (Zimbabwe)

Makomborero Zimbabwe is a Zimbabwean NGO that helps low-income families access A-Level education and further their studies, seeing lives and families changed forever.  They provide a scholarship scheme for eight promising students each year. All of the students are provided with a high quality education at one of three top private schools in Harare, a home to live in and all the resources they require to make their study life as easy as possible. These students have all been recruited from the surrounding townships of Harare and each of them has an incredibly inspiring story of how they fought against tremendous odds and come out with outstanding results.

The School of St Jude (Tanzania)

The mission of The School of St Jude is to educate disadvantaged, bright students from the Arusha District to become moral and intellectual leaders in their country and for St Jude’s to thereby demonstrate educational leadership in Tanzania. St Jude’s provides a free, high-quality education to children who, due to poverty and social pressures, would otherwise be unlikely to complete their schooling. Drawn from families who often live on less than $1.25 per day, the pupils of St Jude’s are shining examples of what students can achieve when they are given the opportunity to receive a quality education.

Open Dreams (Cameroon)

Open Dreams believes that every child has the skills and ambition to succeed but often lacks the opportunity to achieve his or her highest ambitions. We seek to build that bridge through the power of education by mentoring, teaching, training and connecting our students to university educational opportunities, providing a platform on which they can fulfill their dreams.

VAD Foundation (South Sudan)



The Valentino Achak Deng Foundation aims to empower war-affected South Sudanese communities by constructing schools, increasing access to quality education, improving girls’ enrollment in school, creating new teacher-training programs, and promoting literacy for children, women, and men.

Akua Kuenyehia Foundation (Ghana)

The Akua Kuenyehia Foundation (AKF) is a Ghana based not for profit organisation founded by the children of H.E Judge Akua Kuenyehia, first Vice-President of the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands, in her honour. It is a private foundation committed to the development and empowerment, through formal education, of women in Ghana. The overarching purpose is to nurture and develop a passion for knowledge in Ghanaian girls, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds, and a zeal for service to the society by enriching the lives of these young women through educational scholarships and mentorship programmes.
