About UP Department of Companion Animal Clinical Studies

The Department of Companion Animal Clinical Studies is responsible for teaching, service rendering and research in the disciplines of Anaesthesiology, Clinical Pathology, Dentistry, Diagnostic Imaging, Ophthalmology, Equine Medicine & Surgery, and Small Animal Medicine & Surgery.

We present numerous modules for under- and postgraduate students in both the veterinary and paraveterinary (nursing) spheres; those involving the senior undergraduate and postgraduate students place great emphasis on practical and experiential training.

Five of the Department’s eight specialist degree programmes are accredited by their respective discipline-specific European Colleges, namely equine medicine, equine surgery, small animal medicine, anaesthesiology and diagnostic imaging.

We support the veterinary profession in southern Africa by providing a comprehensive referral service, and through our commitment to continuing education. Patient care enjoys a particularly high priority and we aim to achieve world class standards in all that we do.
