About TUT Public Sector Finance

The Department of Public Sector Finance is one of the prominent departments amongst other South African higher education institutions in regard to education in public sector finance. We focus on developing the discipline of accounting and finance in the public sector (national, provincial and local government).
We provide students with a practical education with the necessary competency, enabling them to easily adapt to a working environment. There is a growing demand for educated public finance and accounting officials due to a skills gap identified in government.
We provide students with auditing, accounting, financial management skills that are relevant to the financial discipline in government. These skills play a key role in good governance by management and other stakeholders, taking into consideration the economic, effectiveness and efficient use of the taxpayer’s money. The department offers qualifications in Finance and Accounting (Public) and Local Government Finance from the national diploma to B Tech level.
Students who completed the B Tech level have the option to continue with a master’s and doctoral degrees in the Department of Managerial Accounting. We also present the national diploma programmes at the Polokwane and Mbombela campuses.
