About Chatsmed Candlelight Nursing School

Chatsmed Candlelight Nursing School (Pty) Ltd, is a 100% black owned Nursing Education Institution accredited by the South African Nursing Council in May 1997.

Prior to the establishment of this institution, The Directors/Owners were co-workers/colleagues at Prince Mshiyeni Hospital in Umlazi in Kwazulu Natal working in the Paediatric Department, where the interaction between them started.

The Directors whilst working at Prince Mshiyeni Hospital stared their part time studies (BA Degree in Nursing) through the University of South Africa (UNISA) majoring in Nursing Education and Community Health Nursing Science. After obtaining their nursing degrees they obtained positions as nursing educators at Prince Mshiyeni Nursing College in 1990 and 1991 respectively. While being employed at Prince Mshiyeni Nursing College , we identified a lack of adequate nursing training institutions as many prospective learners applied to the college but a lot of those that had appled could not be absorbed into the system as there was a specific number the college had to enrol as stipulated by the South African Nursing Council.

Our Education Training Quality Assurance Body (ETQA). Realising that this dire need for nursing training, the directors decided to embark on this business opportunity and a Community Development venture. Post 1994 favoured our vision of opening a Private Nursing School as previously disadvantaged citizens of South Africa.

We decided to start with the one year and two year programmed as we realised that there was ample opportunities to empower the community. A private Nursing School would play a vital role as well in economic development of the country as a whole, At the end of one year and two year programmes, our learners would be employed immediately. The particular qualifications were identified as benefiting the learner to ensure economic sustainability and job creation.

The Nursing Education Institution was established by 3 experienced nurses who were also experienced Nurse Educators namely, Mrs Lillian Nthabiseng Lioma ( Chief Executive Officer) Mrs Khulelaphi Phyllis Zondi ( Marketing and Quality Director) and Miss Nombuso Mqadi ( Academic Head / Principal)

Research has proven that there is a definite need to train more nurses due to the disease profile engulfing our country. A dire need was also to train professional nurses, thus the institution started training professional nurses since 2002 to date through the R683 bridging programme leading to registration as a general nurse.

The Nursing Institution has a proven record of producing excellent results from the time of its inception to date. With learners coming from all walks life.

As a private FET Institution , Chatmed Chandlelight Nursing School aims to establish itself as a leading provider of Private Nursing Education in Kwazulu Natal. Our learners are trained to world standards, in line with the requirements of Industry and in accordance with the various laws and regulations that govern the industry.

We are proud to state that we have our own property that measures 2,005 square metres ,situated in No 82 Khuzimpi Shezi Road in Dalbridge. The school is accessible by trains, buses,taxis. The fees we charge are market related and far cheaper than any other Private School in Kwa Zulu Natal. We have friendly experienced and supportive staff members.

Careful competitive analysis has shown that our nurses are better equipped with quality skills and display a higher quality nursing care then competitors as they are exposed to a wide scope of institutions during their clinical placements, thus giving them a wide scope of experience in the nursing field. We provide exceptional value for money, education. Our lecture halls are easily accessible , attractive, adequately large, well equipped with resources both human and non human. This is so in allof our four campuses. Currently Chatsmed Dandlelight Nursing School has 1010 learners annually in all 4 of our campuses.
