About African Academy for the Built Environment

The African Academy for the Built Environment (AA) was established in 1994 to address the need for scarce skills in the Built Environment, focusing on the technical sector, specifically in Engineering.

The AA initially commenced with courses in the Draughting/Design Engineering sector, progressing to offer courses that Industry required as and when needed.

The AA commenced with 8 candidates in 1994 on one course. Today it has almost 700 students on 8 courses.

The AA ensures an appropriate enrollment of candidates in all its courses, commensurate with the demand from Industry, making employment a great possibility. This has resulted in a placement rate in excess of 75% to date.

The AA prides itself on excellent training ensuring that it is current and relevant. This has resulted in a pass rate in excess of 75% .

The AA is fully accredited in South Africa and has international recognition with City & Guilds. This ensures the continuance of the excellent standard of the AA which is also apparent in terms of Industry support of the AA such as Hatch Engineering… an international Engineering company that donates R1 million per annum to the AA.

City &Guilds recognized the AA as a formidable training organization in 2014 and endorsed all AA’s courses and listed the AA as a City &Guilds training institution.
