UNISA Centre for Industrial and Organisational Psychology

Industrial and Organisational Psychology is the scientific study of human behaviour in the workplace. It embraces the interaction between individuals and work processes with a view to predicting and promoting mental health and productivity, and facilitating optimal utilisation of human resources in the organisation.

Study areas include the role of personality in the workplace, career development, personnel selection, employment relations, consumer psychology and ergonomics. A study of these areas provides the student with knowledge and skills required in the wide range of employment opportunities available to industrial psychologists.

Undergraduate qualifications may lead to employment in human resource management, organisational development, industrial relations, ergonomics, consulting, while postgraduate qualifications equip people to practise as psychometrists, counsellors and professional industrial psychologists.
