The module focuses primarily on the major aspects of invertebrate biology (taxonomy and general characteristics). Purpose: This module forms part of the Diploma in Nature Conservation as one of the major subjects. On completion of this module students can critically assess different habitats (i.e. marine, estuarine, freshwater and terrestrial) in the southern African context. The different zones and limiting factors of each habitat are identified and adaptations of organism to survive in each are described. The value of each habitat as a resource is outlined and Man’s influence is assessed. Students registering for this module are required to have regular access to a computer and the internet in order to download or read essential study material from the myUnisa module site and world wide web. This module will be presented online, and no study material will be posted for this module. Formative assessment must be completed online and summative assessment for this module comprises a non-venue based examination.
