Oude Molen High School Subjects

FET Core Subjects

As a Dinaledi school, every learner at Oude Molen must offer Mathematics, Physical Sciences and English Home Language through to Grade 12.

The subjects offered in our narrow engineering focus are English Home Language, Afrikaans First Additional Language, Life Orientation, a Technology Subject, Mathematics, Physical Science, and Engineering Graphics & Design. We offer no other subjects. The only choice of subjects that we have is a choice of Civil, Electrical or Mechanical Technology.

We use the best teaching and learning technology to encourage academic success.

The visionary ‘Holistic development of responsible citizens’ is based on the belief that our learners must be more than mere cogs in industry but must enjoy a healthy lifestyle in democratic South Africa.

There is an enormous market for the knowledge and skills our graduates have so it is clear that they do well, but we also give Oude Molen learners an understanding that they must do good.

Sport

Having recently partnered with the Old Mutual Sports Club, we have established an Astroturf hockey field on our campus. We emphasise co-curricular involvement because we believe that it is the connection between us and our learners that leads to good self-esteem and better self-discipline. We also have a thriving First Aid Team that performs unselfishly at practices and matches.

In 2008 the Old Mutual Sports Club Oude Molen partnership delivered at Oude Molen:

  • Astroturf hockey field
  • Floodlights for the Astroturf hockey field
  • Floodlights for the soccer fields
  • Commencement of a second turf cricket pitch
  • Management and maintenance of the fields, including mowing, watering, fertilizing and marking
  • Four new table-tennis tables and kits for use in the school hall after hours

Since then the partnership also delivered:

  • The completed second turf cricket pitch
  • First class turf soccer, hockey and rugby playing fields
  • Provision of an indoor facility for cricket nets and action cricket
  • Tarring of parking area between the Auditorium and the Astroturf field
  • Establishment of a netball court
  • Upgrading of male changing-room facilities
  • Provision of ladies’ toilet and changing-room facilities

These facilities may be hired at nominal fees from Old Mutual Sports Club by prior arrangement. The manager, Mr D Owen, may be contacted at 021 531 8532 during office hours.
