About us

The School of Accounting offers the following three accounting programmes:

BCom Chartered Accountancy,
BCom Financial Accountancy, and

The School’s programmes are aligned with those on the Potchefstroom and Vaal Triangle Campuses of North-West University. The Campuses use common study material and students write the same examination in all the modules at each level of study.

Chartered accountancy
The BCom Chartered Accountancy programme is accredited by the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) and is designed for persons who want to obtain the professional designation CA(SA). After completing their first degree, the students would be required to continue with their postgraduate studies at one of the other campuses, or at another SAICA-accredited university, in order to sit for the final qualifying examinations set by the professional body.

The BCom Financial Accountancy degree together with further studies and practical training, would enable a person to earn the designation “Professional Accountant (SA)”. This programme is accredited by the South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA).

Students enrolled for the BCom Financial Accountancy degree should note that it may still be possible for them to qualify as chartered accountants, provided they complete certain bridging courses and meet the entry requirements for the postgraduate programme for CA students.
