ANCILLARY HEALTH CARE

Learners who complete this qualification will possess the competence required to perform community health functions under the supervision of a professional health worker. They will be in possession of a recognised qualification that will provide a platform for further education and training in a career pathway towards becoming professional health workers.

SOCIAL AUXILIARY WORK

Norah Nursing Academy offers accredited training for Social Auxiliary Workers (SAWs) at NQF level 4. Our full-time Social Auxiliary Worker course lasts 12-months, with learners spending 70% of their time in the field practice.

MEDICAL SECRETARY

The medical secretary works closely with doctors, specialists or other medical professionals, assisting with typing and filing memos, submitting samples for lab tests, x-rays, filing and faxing of prescriptions, and confidential patient information.  They also play a role with managing the appointment book for patients, theatre bookings, and may also deal with debtors, creditors and medical aid companies.

ENROLLED NURSING

The duration is 2 years full-time. If the learner already completed the one-year Auxiliary course, then she/he can enroll for only one year. After completion of the Enrolled Nursing course, successful learners obtain the qualification as Enrolled Nurse (Staff Nurse) with the South African Nursing Council.

DENTAL ASSISTANT

Dental assistants require a variety of diverse skills ranging from secretarial to clinical skills. They are involved in everything from reception duties to data capturing, dealing with patients and medical aid schemes etc. However their primary task is assisting the dental practitioner with dental procedures, be it surgical procedures, impression taking for dentures, orthodontics, restorations or extractions.

PHARMACY ASSISTANT

The purpose of this Certificate qualification is to equip learners to understand and acquaint themselves with the underlying principles of all of the major areas related to the pharmaceutical environment by providing them with grounding in the relevant legislative and ethical requirements as well as the basic technical skills required in this field.

Norah Nursing Academy (Pty) Ltd Admission Criteria

LEVEL 4 COURSES

Applicants seeking to attend Norah Nursing Academy must meet one of the following criteria to be considered for admission:
  • -Passed Matric; or
  • -Successfully completed Technical Matric N3 ; or
  • -Be a transfer student from another college or tertiary institution in good academic standing.

*Official Matric Statements must be submitted to academic records.

The College allows high school drop-outs to take lower level courses (1-3).

Students, who meet one of the above criteria, must complete the following to be admitted:

  1. -Submit the application for admission
  2. -Pay the non-refundable enrollment fee
  3. -Complete the required placement exams
  4. -Submit official transcripts from all institutions attended (these include institutions where the student may have attended and withdrawn without receiving credit)

PROFESSIONAL COURSES

Applicants seeking to attend any Norah Nursing Academy Professional Courses must meet one of the following criteria to be considered for admission:

  1. -Have earned a matric certificate, or
  2. -Be a professional with working experience in the course they are applying for

Students, who meet one of the above criteria, must complete the following to be admitted:

  1. -Submit the application for admission
  2. -Pay the non-refundable application fee
  3. -Submit a letter from the workplace, or
  4. -Submit official transcripts from all institutions attended (these include institutions where the student may have attended and withdrawn without receiving credit)
