Established in 1976 the Eastcape Training Centre (ETC) has grown from relatively small beginnings to the dynamic organisation it is today. ETC is governed by a board which is representative of all major stakeholders and utilizes dedicated staff that is professional in their field of expertise.

The ETC is an established Training Centre as well as a Private FET College, aimed at providing and improving skills in a variety of disciplines, from carpentry to catering, and from management level to service level.

The ETC is committed to uplifting the community, and ensuring that the economy has an able and capable workforce; this is done by providing access to scarce skills development and providing the best, modern facilities and equipment to satisfy the needs and aspirations of individuals and organisations alike. ETC aims to give learners a push in the right direction in providing on-site management of learnerships and apprenticeships, securing host employers, providing trainability assessment, selection and placement services.

ETC cares about every single learner and every client and is always willing to go the the extra mile. ETC provides customized packages and courses to meet your needs!

In addition, we have a top class Conference Centre, providing functional and professional conference facilities which serve a variety of situations.

EastCape Training Programmes

Engineering Department

The Building and Construction Training Department tackles training that falls under the Civil Engineering banner. From basic bricklaying, including the correct mixing of the dagga, to fitting doors, locks building cabinets, and even coffins, to painting, decorating and water proofing, as well as all the necessary foundation work for brick or concrete structures, it all falls within our fields of expertise.

The Building and Construction Training Department trains mainly under the CETA (Construction Engineering Training Authority) but is also accredited with other SETAs.

  • SHORT COURSES

    Specific courses can be tailored to meet special needs, drawing from the vast range of training material that ETC has readily on file.

  • APPRENTICESHIPS

    The range of courses offered are approximately a year in duration for each level. The learner would complete an initial three to four months at ETC before going to a host employer where they would practically apply what they have learned. At the end of the year the learner returns to ETC for their assessment and evaluation, done by an independent moderator. If judged competent, the learner may then progress to the next higher level.

  • LEARNERSHIPS

    Generally, Learnerships at the lower level average around 20 to 24 individual registered unit standards. Any one, or any combination or group of specific unit standards can be offered to individuals or industry to suit particular requirements. In addition, the previous common qualification, that of modular training for individual specific courses, can still be offered.

Catering Department

If you are interested in starting a career in the catering and hospitality industry, ETC’s Catering and Hospitality Department can provide you with the solid foundation you will need. We boast quality culinary and hospitality training and offer a dynamic learning environment.
We offer a wide range of Catering courses, and will meet your training needs whether you want to be trained as a Steak House Grill hand, a Hostel Chef, or for industrial mass catering. We also offer health, hygiene and safety courses specific to the catering industry, which are vital to ensuring a completely hygienic and safe working environment.



ETC offers a variety of course modules specifically related to Beverages, their preparation and serving. These beverages modules include general administrative courses that pertain to running and organizing a catering kitchen.

In addition to our catering and beverage modules, we offer other Hospitality Services, where we provide skills training in accommodation, housekeeping, cleaning, laundering and related life skills.

Modules may be selected to suit your specific needs, and range from 1 to 8 days in length.

  • LEARNERSHIPS

Driver Training Department

From passenger vehicles to 18-wheeler trucks, from forklifts to bulldozers, ETC’s Driver Training Department offers expert training in all these and more. Applicants should preferably be in possession of a valid learner’s license for the code they require. However, ETC does offer learner’s license training, and we boast a pass rate of 98%.

  • PROFESSIONAL DRIVING

    ETC is proud to offer specific courses in economic and defensive driving – the systematic application of driving techniques which are designed for the early detection of vehicle and environmental problems that may pose a threat to the driver. This can be considered to be somewhere between Advanced Driving and Professional Driving.

  • CODE B

    Applicants should preferably be in possession of a valid learner’s license for the code they require. However, ETC does offer learner’s license training, and we boast a pass rate of 98%.

  • PLANT & EQUIPMENT HIRE

  • LIFTING EQUIP PROGRAMME

    Our accredited lifting training includes training for Forklift Operators and Crane Operators. We also offer training in heavy plant equipment operating, including: Front end loader, back actor, bulldozer, excavator, dumper and tow motor.

  • DANGEROUS GOODS TRANSPORT

    Eastcape Training Centre is proud to announce our program approval from TETA for the course –
    Conveying of Dangerous Goods By Road.

  • CODE EC, EC1 & C

    ETC offers Heavy Duty Professional Driving as a one year Learnership (Unit Standard 50285) under the auspices of TETA (Transport, Education Training Authority). This should be considered an essential qualification for all heavy duty full time drivers as South Africa needs to lower the tragic road death toll dramatically.
